16h00-18h00 GMT+1: Transformation via that Sanitation Economy: From Unsustainable Costs to Untapped Business Opportunities

The world is not on track to reach Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) on Water and Sanitation by the deadline set for 2030, according to the United Nations’ synthesis report on SDG 6 (UN-Water, 2018). The conclusions of this report underline that not enough money is being committed by governments – citing that over 80% of countries have insufficient finance to meet national water, sanitation and hygiene targets. The transition to universal sanitation includes vast opportunities for private sector innovation and new technologies that will attract commercial investment and contribute to sustainable economic growth. Leading companies are committing to bold action to improve access to sanitation, and in doing so are increasing the evidence base for new solutions to be delivered through the market in a transformative economy. The private sector, working together with the government and other partners from civil society, can un-lock new opportunities that support our joint vision to achieve SDG 6. Event attendance is by invitation only and includes:

  • World Business Council for Sustainable Development

  • International Labour Organization

  • WASH4WORK

  • Toilet Board Coalition and

  • Invited government representatives.
